Electricity.....and its dangers!!!!!

We've all wondered what its like to witness something or feel something truly frightening....Kids are even worse, since we don't even know the most dangerous situations can happen with the slightest twist in fate. This happened to me on the 1st of May,2012,and I'm still scared...don't ask why...I just am....

The perfect Tuesday....personally,I love Tuesdays, because they usually bring me nice things, like amazing marks on a physics test, or an amazing time with friends in lunch time!!This Tuesday was definitely different, but I didn't notice this till nightfall....

My grandparent's house is pretty old-nearly 30 years are over since it was first built. They have an old motor that pumps water from the ground to the tank on the terrace of their home. My mom says the ground water is pretty clean, so when the motor is turned on, we catch the water on its way to the tank, and then drink it...its that clean!!!I don't want to bore you, but there's just a little more information left. The taps in their house are made of metal and the motor needs loads of power to pump, so we can only turn it on when we have power....

It was 9.15 in the night, and my mom,my sister and my grandparent's are sitting in the living room, peacefully watching TV. My mom thought she saw a flicker, and suggested that we should put the motor off. My grandfather and I went to the bathroom to check if water was still running out of the tap. There wasn't any water dripping, so my grandad told me to turn the tap on. I reached out and tried to turn it.

All of a sudden, I started vibrating. Let me tell you, I wasn't vibrating very little either. IT was like how they show on television, where someone touches an electric appliance and they shake a lot. I was shaking like that. And the worst part:I couldn't let go of the tap. I tried(I think) but I just couldn't let go. My eyes went black, I couldn't see anything. The next thing I remember, I'm on the bathroom floor with a throbbing headache and my grandad shaking like how I was. He started throwing up (he's 75 years old). I then did what anyone else would do:

I screamed my head out. Then my mom and sister ran into the bathroom, and I heard my mom scream to my sister to turn the motor off. We both ran to the switchboard so fast, passing the rooms were like a blur. Thank God my sister turned it off, and my grandad finally stopped shaking. My mom and I helped him get up and we helped him to the living room.

It was there that I learned that my granddad had pushed me from the tap and I fell. While pulling his hand back though, his fingers touched the tap and the current caught him too. He had pushed me. I practically owe my life to him. If he hadn't shoved me aside, I wouldn't have even posted about this experience.

After that it was surprise after surprise. I also found out that all of this happened within a span of 2 minutes. My entire left arm hurt from the vibrating and my head ached-this was because I had fallen on my head on a ledge in the bathroom. All of us were shaken up.

I couldn't even sleep properly. The thought of what could have happened kept me up practically the whole night. I got worried anytime someone wanted to use the bathroom or even wanted to wash their hands. Of course, this got the whole family annoyed but I didn't really care.

The next day the electrician came. He told my mom and grandad that because the power went out, there was a short circuit inside the motor, and this caused a current to be sent out to all the taps. The whole motor got burnt. He said that 450-550 Volts passed through our bodies. This obviously meant that we were VERY lucky to be alive....

So that was the most frightening experience of the nearly 14 years I've lived on this dangerous planet.....
Hey everyone!!Sorry I haven't been posting.Grade 9 turned out to be tougher than expected and I actually forgot to start writing!!I'll try to post more this year, but of course it depends on how much Internet time I get and how much time I have to think of writing....so hopefully, you'll see more posts than the previous year!!
